![]() ![]() We know the Children created the White Walkers, so the Walkers are an extension of them somehow, but do they use the spirals in their tableaus as a means of mocking the Children or are the patterns also important to them in their own right?Īrya's Winterfell homecoming was excellent, but how does Sansa feel about her after hearing from Bran that the Young Pup's death list is real, and then watching her pretty much beat Brienne in a sparring session? She seemed pretty disturbed by it all. Jon's time with Dany down in the Dragonstone cave was a really cool way to look back at the history or both the realm and the show, as the spiral carvings on the walls, the ones done by the Children of the Forest, are the same type that the White Walkers created with body parts - as seen in the pilot episode and then again after the Fist of the First Men army of the dead ambush. I wasn't sure if the show would lean into a romance between them so blatantly, given the eventual (presumed) reveal of Jon being her nephew! Perhaps she's not totally off base.Īnother interesting element to Daenerys this week was that not only did she ask Jon for a bit of council, but she also seemed to be getting more and more attracted to him. She accused Tyrion of caring about his family - their enemies - too much. Especially his brother, who he definitely wanted to steer away from charging Dany. He doesn't want to see his countrymen burn. In the sense that he didn't enjoy seeing all those men set on fire. It also did seem like perhaps she was right about Tyrion. Is she now over listening to him altogether? Tyrion's been failing big time as Hand as his war advise has been pretty short-sighted (that's not a pun!), but he's also been the one suggesting that she not fly in, dragons blazing. The episode even made sure to paint them each with couple extra strokes of sympathy before the Dothraki rode in. These were hero moments that could have led to a triumphant "last stand" type of death. Especially if it happens while, say, you're manning a giant crossbow called "The Scorpion" (and you actually landed one of your shots!) or if you're charging at a Dragon Queen with a spear while she tends to her wounded beast. That being said, getting torched by a giant dragon is not a weak exit. It's not like we wanted them to win either, we just didn't want them to get burned to a crisp. ![]() Truthfully, if anyone was in real danger though it was Jaime and Bronn. There were no paltry pawns on the board here, save for the Tarlys. Plus, this battle featured major characters on both sides-characters we actually care about, since leading Queen Cersei's army were Jaime and Bronn!Įverything was on the table during this fight. It may even rival Hardhome in terms of spectacle. The past three Thrones episodes now have ended with big action set pieces, but the Dragon/Dothraki battle down in The Reach, in The Spoils of War, was one of the most gripping and magnificent ones to date.
